The Joint Doctoral Workshop on Legal Studies – the yearly appointment that sees Ph.D. students from two international research institutions, both residing in Tuscany and within a short distance, come together to discuss topics of great relevance and of current debate – took place in the lovely setting of Badia Fiesolana, a villa from the renaissance home to the legal department of the European University Institute, on the hills overlooking Florence.

There students and faculty of both institutions intervened in a day full of presentations, on topics ranging from diaspora laws, states’ responsibility for conducts in international organizations, technical standardization, virtual currencies, American modernism, administrative compensation, crimes against humanity, relative truth and purpose in German criminal law, and subnational constitutions. For each presentation by a student a discussant from chosen among the faculty of the other institution commented on the written paper and presentation.

The event saw a lively participation and discussion that ended with an informal dinner, allowing time for socialization.
