The commercial and civilian use of drones has both legal and technical implications but also opportunities and challenges: the “DroiT – Drones in Tuscany” project was carried out by Sant’Anna School Institute Dirpolis (Law, Politics and Development) and CNR Florence Institute of Legal Information Theory and Techniques with the financial support of the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation. The meeting for the presentation of project results will be held in Florence Palazzo Incontri on Friday, November 11th.
Erica Palmerini, professor of private law at Sant’Anna School Institute Dirpolis participates in the meeting which will focus on the analysis of the legal implications associated with the civilian use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The seminar will give the authorities delegated to the civil aviation regulation, scholars and experts the opportunity to discuss the RPA (remotely piloted aircraft) technology challenges for the modern military as well as for civil institutions concerned with safety, security, and policing.
“The drone industry and market – says Erica Palmerini, anticipating the discussion of Friday, November 11 – have in fact great growth potential, but fragmentation and inconsistencies of the current regulation may hinder the development of this manifold and multifaceted technology. It is therefore necessary to promote a dialogue between technical and legal experts in order to design rules able to encourage the sustainable development of this industry sector: a balance between sustainability and compliance with safety procedures, and the privacy rights of the citizens”.
