LUDOVICO CAROFANO
Ludovico graduated summa cum laude (thesis reported as meritorious) in Law at the University of Trento in 2023, discussing a thesis on the international protection of cultural heritage in armed conflicts. He took part in the Erasmus+ Programme at the Masaryk University of Brno and spent a period at the University of Lisbon Public Law Research Centre as a visiting researcher while writing his thesis.
After graduating, he was admitted to the International Master in Cultural Property Protection in Crisis Response organized by the University of Turin, the UNESCO Chair of Economics of Culture and Heritage, and the Institute of International Humanitarian Law, focusing on a way forward to facilitate the return of colonial looted cultural property through sustainable and conscious practices. From March 2024, he participated in the working group for the Report “Heritage in Ruins” as part of the Master’s collaborative activities with the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) at the United Nations, dealing with the European context.
His PhD project focuses on the protection of cultural heritage in crises and explores the relationship between cultural heritage, human rights protection, and security concerns at the international and EU levels.
LORENZO DE CARLO
Lorenzo graduated cum laude in Law at the Università di Pisa in December 2023 with a thesis about the decisions of constitutional courts with regard to electoral law from a comparative viewpoint. He also studied at Sant’Anna as an honors undergraduate student in Law, obtaining a license cum laude in June 2024 with a thesis on the topic of the relationship between the Italian Parliament and the Government in times of crisis. His Ph.D. research project concerns a similar subject, analyzing the relationship between state powers in times of continuous emergency.
Lorenzo has published several articles in scientific journals on parliamentary law, electoral law, institutional reforms, the judicial system, and constitutional history. Moreover, he is a collaborator on the editorial board of the Constitutional Law journal “Forum di Quaderni Costituzionali”.
He interned at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, and the Ministry of Justice in 2023-24. He is a consultant to a start-up company focused on synthesis by A.I. of legislative acts and a trainee lawyer at the Pisa Bar.
CHENGXIN LIANG
Chengxin obtained her Bachelor of Laws with first-class honors at the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing. She then pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) at Université de Montréal, where she received a full scholarship on merit.
After completing her LLM in 2020, Chengxin worked as a certified lawyer for several years at Commerce & Finance Law Offices in Beijing, with extensive experience in corporate compliance, commercial negotiation and transactions.
At Sant’Anna, her Ph.D. project delves into the comparative study of ESG regulation and practice between the EU and China.
ÖZNUR UĞUZ
Öznur obtained her Bachelor of Laws at Istanbul University in 2016 and qualified as a lawyer in 2017. While practicing law, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Magna Cum Laude from Istanbul University. She studied the law of England and Wales in the United Kingdom in 2020 and earned a Graduate Diploma in Law with distinction, being awarded by the university for achieving the highest marks in the Contract Law and Criminal Law modules of her cohort.
In 2023, she obtained a Master of Science in European Economy and Business Law at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she was awarded the EEBL First-Year Student Prize granted to two top-performing students of the program. She had a semester of study abroad at the University of Antwerp with a scholarship from the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) university alliance. During her master’s studies, she participated as a full scholarship awardee in the Jean Monnet Winter School on EU Policy Making 2023 (Digital Rights and Diplomacy), jointly organized by the Brussels School of Governance, Vienna School of International Studies, and the University of Vienna.
Her research interests lie in the intersection of EU law and technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence, digitalization, and administrative law.
